Cat 6 Cabling

Industry standard cabling

Category 6 cables, commonly known as Cat 6 cables have extended the standard set by category 5E.  Cat 6 cables follow a much more stringent data transmission specification and are fully certified to carry gigabit data speeds. They can carry data up to 250MHz whereas Cat 5 is limited to 100 MHz.

Cat 6 also has much improved external signal shielding that results in improved crosstalk resistance.

HISTORY

Category 6 data cabling has been around for some time now, but since it's ratification in 2002 it is fast becoming the most popular choice for high spec installations. Cat 6 computer network cabling offers more than twice the bandwidth of Enhanced Category 5 and is tested up to 250MHz. This not only provides an excellent platform for existing high speed applications, but also provides for future applications utilising high speed full duplex transport.

HIGH SPEC

Category 6 is specified in EIA/TIA-568-B.2-1 and ISO/IEC11801 (Class E). Our Category 6 Cabling System exceeds the Permanent Link and Channel specifications as well as the individual connecting hardware and cable specifications ensuring Cat 6 performance as well as full backward compatibility with Category 5E and Category 5 systems. A maximum run length of 100m is also recommended.

We are highly experienced in the installation of Cat 6 cables. Category 6 and 6A cable must be properly installed and terminated to meet specifications. The cable must not be kinked or bent too tightly (the bend radius should be at least four times the outer diameter of the cable). The wire pairs must not be untwisted and the outer jacket must not be stripped back more than 0.5 in (12.7 mm).
