Cat 5e cabling solutions

The most popular cabling solution

For several years Enhanced Category 5 / Category 5E / Cat 5E has been the base standard for copper cabling systems. It was primarily developed to support Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T), and included a number of new test parameters to provide a more tightly controlled cabling infrastructure than the previous Category 5. It was ratified in 1999 as an addendum to TIA/EIA-568-A and then became TIA/EIA-568B in 2001.

Cat 5E is the ideal medium for today's high speed protocols like Gigabit Ethernet that require four pair transmission at a bandwidth of up to 100MHz.

Most of our network installations are either Category 5E (Cat 5E) with a fibre optic back bone for communication between the communications (comms) cabinets.

At Data and Voice Cabling we are committed to installing the best possible networks for all types of organisations.

We carry out work for schools, colleges, small and large businesses and also work for many local government organisations.

The Cat 5 cable standard has been the standard cabling type for data applications for many years.  This standard was enhanced and improved to Cat5E. The Cat5E standard was fully backwards compatible with.

This enhancement offered significant improvements in data speeds and 'crosstalk' (the way that signals are externally influenced by neighbouring fields).

Cat5E is not the most widely used cable specification with gigabit transmission rates over 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX Ethernet connection 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX Ethernet connection. Although data speeds will always be limited by the slowest link in any network. A maximum run length of 100m is recommended. Category 5E is still widely used in many installations as it supports gigabit Ethernet but some customers do prefer Cat 6 cabling as it offers more 'head room' than Cat 5E.
